JAMES DABILL / JST GAS GAS WIN 2009 BRITISH TRIALS CHAMPIONSHIP !........and NAMBO WINS NATTERJACK!
James Dabill / JST GAS GAS UK No.1 Rider is the 2009 British Trials Champion! Dibs only needed a Top 7 finish at this last round to clinch the Championship but what we wanted was to actually win the last event to win the Championship in style. It was also James’ first time out on his new 2010 PRO300 which was even sweeter. He delivered the result we needed and yet again had a superb last lap to get the win in front of ‘on-form’ Micheal Brown. Browny pushed him for the first two laps and was actually winning by just one dab before the last lap. Dibs’ was awesome on the last lap and was untouchable to win the event on 18 marks to Michaels 26. The 2009 British Championship has been good for James this year having won 6 of the 8 rounds. He was 3rd at both the Mitchell and the West of England Trials. Doug Lampkin rode in three rounds and was beaten twice by Dibs and injured in one resulting by a DNF. For me the Championship was won at the Yeadon & Guisley round which James won. He was ‘genuinely’ unwell, dug deep and still pulled the win out of the bag. He really proved to me that he wanted this Championship that day. After the years of experience I have with supporting Steve Colley, its scary how similar Steve and James are. For me to work with James is easy because even after one year I feel like it’s just been another year with a younger Colley. Steve was a massive part of the Team (and still is with his shows) and I knew when he retired from the btc we would miss him from both a business and personal aspect. To sell bikes, winning does make a difference but on a personal level I have always wanted to win and it’s been a VERY long 5 years since GAS GAS last won the British Championship. We were close in 2007 with Shaun Morris which ended cruelly with Shaun’s eye injury. Also to support a rider like James keeps my enthusiasm in the Sport and Business. I may be only 38 years old but I have been involved in Trials all my life and selling GAS GAS for over 20 years, so to maintain a good level of commitment and interest is difficult…..especially in these difficult times. We must not forget that to win at any level is not just about the rider and I must use this opportunity to thank two people especially for the success of James this year… Jack Lee is in my opinion one of the best ‘minders’ in the World and works his ass off for Dibs. He puts up with his funny ways and really does know what is best for him. To win at this Top Level is simply not possible without a right hand man like Jack and I personally thank him for what we have achieved this year. Also I want to Thank Factory Kev here at GGUK. He is the chief spanner-man for James and has prepared his bike this year. Kev has been with us since the start of the Pro Model back in 2002 and NOBODY knows the bike better than Kev. So thanks kev and be proud that ‘your’ bike has won the 2009 British Trials Championship. The superb event at the weekend was organized by the Kent Youth Trials Club at Sandfields Farm in Kent. They did a superb job of the sections considering they have never before ran a BTC round and they must take a massive thanks for the effort they have obviously made. Let’s hope they’re keen again for next year… Ross Danby (JSTGG) saved his best for last having his best BTC result of the year finishing a strong 4th place in front of Sam Conner his JST Team mate Sam Haslam in 6th. Ross has just that little more aggression than Sam for some of the big BTC sections which was needed on Sunday. Ross will carry the No.6 bib for next year with Sam No.5 again. Sam finished only one point behind Jack Challoner who has finished 4th in the Championship. Craig Robinson (JSTGG) finished 9th on the day and has finished 8th in the 2009 Championship. Craig has really enjoyed his first year in the main class and must practice and focus hard on his weaknesses to improve next year. In the Expert A Class we were not as successful as the main class. TRC GAS GAS rider Lee Sampson has been the best GG rider this year finishing 4th overall in the Championship and Jonny Walker in 8th. Dan Thorpe has become very frustrated with the BTC this year and has finished 9th, choosing not to compete in all the rounds. In the Expert B Class, ALBION GAS GAS Rider Ricky Wiggins has finished on the podium in 3rd place in a very close fought Championship. Ricky won three rounds and is currently on form winning the last two. Pic, thanks to Trialmag CHRISTOPHE NAMBOTIN WINS ‘THE NATTERJACK’ BRITISH ENDURO CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND. Also at the weekend was the final Round of the 2009 British Enduro Championship which was timed perfectly with the arrival of the first batch of the 2010 GAS GAS Enduro models which were on display. The Factory GAS GAS No.1 Rider Christophe Nambotin won the event overall with a superb win on his trusty EC300 2 stroke. Christophe won on Saturday and was second behind Knighter on Sunday who DNF’d on Day 1 This was Christophe’s first ever BEC Race and was not told about using a Trials tyre until he arrived! This young French rider is a really nice guy and his preparation for this event was impressive. He came on his own, unpaid via the Cherbourg to Poole boat to a strange country to race for GGUK. The factory sent his bike the previous week so at least his bike was familiar. His English is not fantastic but he is keen to learn. He also wanted to use the Natterjack for training for the ISDE. I told him that the event is hard work and im sure he slept well on the boat Sunday night! I have only met him once before and so it was learning curve for all concerned. Between myself and Steve Plain I hope we made him feel welcome.. Ashley Wood, SP/GGUK No.1 Rider did not have his best weekend finishing 9th overall. (10th on Day 1 and 11th on Day 2). Ash is now focused on the ISDE and maybe this was in the back of his mind at the weekend? With the first batch of 2010 Enduro models arriving only two days before the event it was ‘in at the deep end’ for Expert Rider Luke Meredith and Clubmen Rider ‘Charlie Evans’ who both rode brand new 2010 models. Luke finished 3rd overall in the Expert Class and Charlie WON the Clubman Class overall. WELL DONE you two! Both riders are raving about the new bikes and are particularly impressed with the 2010 suspension and handling. Sounds like the boys at Sachs have been busy !
