Factory GAS GAS and No.1 GGUK Enduro rider Danny McCanney has just convincingly won round 1 of the 2018 British Enduro Championship.
Firstly congrats to the Whitley Motor Cycle Club for a great event.
The race was 4 weeks since Danny broke his hand at the Fast Eddy Extreme Race at Tong on Jan 14th. Danny rode for the first time for 1 hour last week to see if he felt strong enough to race. He has had great rehab on his hand which has worked.
No riding for 4 weeks before a big event is not ideal but he had no choice so Danny and certainly myself didn’t know what to expect on Sunday. It was important to hopefully finish this first one day BEC event and get some valuable championship points. Danny rode the event perfectly. He rode the first lap very sensibly and rode the first two tests at a ‘tight check’ speed until he felt happy to push. Danny was actually 16 seconds down after the first lap but it didn’t faze him because he knew he plenty left.
From lap two, Danny dominated the event taking chunks out of his rivals each test to eventually win by a massive 1 minute and 3 second margin.
Danny was very happy and relieved at the finish albeit very tired as were all the riders.
It was great to see Danny and GAS GAS winning a BEC event again. We have a lot of work to do with GG in the UK Enduro scene but this is a dream start.
Danny will now go to Spain for EnduroGP training and testing with his Factory GG team mates.
A big congratulations from myself and everyone here at GGUK, I drove home happy and proud.
Thanks to Juan Knight for help with the bike preparation
